oxo tower

The OXO Tower's Not Afternoon Tea is the perfect treat especially for a birthday - and that is just what I got! We booked a table for 3pm and by the time we got there we were starving. A beautiful, crisp, sunny day meant sitting by the window in the Brasserie was light, bright with a beautiful view of the river and a nice ambiance. The waiters were attentive and served us wate

r straight away but gave us time to browse through the different afternoon tea plates. We went for the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland experience which includes a Not Afternoon Tea plate (of your choice) along with an eat me, drink me treat, a Golden Afternoon cocktail, gingerbread pocket watch and Alice themed treat box to takeaway. This obviously comes with a higher price and for both of us was £90 - PRICEY but was such a lovely experience. However at £26 for a cocktail and a plate of treats I think the usual Not Afternoon Tea is pretty good value for a fantastic venue, great service and delicious treats. Each season there are 4 different plates with a bespoke cocktail to choose from. At the moment there are the following:
TEA TOTAL PLATE - English tea Victoria sponge, Chamomile & lemon meringue pie, Redbush panna cotta, Jasmine white chocolate sandwich and TOTALLY TEA - Absolut Elyx, peach liquor, Lillet Rouge, lemon juice, Earl Grey syrup, slimline tonic.
ALL ABOUT THE BRITISH PUDDING - Treacle tart, vanilla ice cream, Sticky toffee pudding, clotted cream, Bramley apple crumble, custard, Rice pudding, wild plum jam and DELICIOUS UNION - Sipsmith Summer Cup, chase marmalade, cider, apple juice, vanilla foam and cherry bitters.
CHOCOLATE FRUIT AND NUT CASE - Dark chocolate peanut tart, White chocolate and cranberry truffle, Caramelia hazelnut mousse, Rum and raisin chocolate pudding and CHAMBOLIC - Chambord, frangelico, orgeat, cranberry and ginger ale.
RHUBARB RHUBARB RHUBARB - Rhubarb and ginger cheesecake, Rhubarb gin trifle, Rhubarb and liquorice tart, Rhubarb and wild fennel meringue and RHUBARB - Portobello Road Gin, rhubarb liqueur, lemon juice and tonic water.
All 4 sound fantastic right? We went for the British Pud & Choco plate, sharing both so we could try more. (N.b. you are also able to pick the other cocktails instead of going with the pairing however we stuck to the advised). My bf LOVES chocolate however was reserved as doesn't like nut or fruit additions - if you are the same don't worry as none of the fruit or nuts are over powering and everything works beautifully. The plates arrived, although we did wait quite a while, and were brought by the friendliest waiter. Mine had HAPPY BIRTHDAY written on it in caramel sauce which was cute and a candle in the ice cream - very sweet! The warm chocolate pudding was delicious - I couldn't taste the rum or raisin which worked for me however I can see why some people might be disappointed as it didn't quite meet the description. My favourite plate was the chocolate by far - everything was rich, high quality and beautifully presented. The British Pud plate was also fantastic and included the nicest sticky toffee pud and treacle tart. To be honest the rice pudding was a let down - there are plenty of other British classics they could have chosen but hey. The addition of the ice cream and custard sides were also nice - especially the homemade custard but the ice cream wasn't the best quality.  The cocktails were also amazing - presented in beautiful glasses. My fav was the Chambolic which was smooth, chocolatey with a hint of fruit. The second cocktail was OK but nothing special. And the treats to take away were so cute and ranged from a marzipan rabbit to a mushroom shaped macaroon.
Overall a lovely experience - I will be back to try their Not Afternoon Tea when they switch it up next!
