old london stations

peckham-rye-station-00278-350Peckham Rye Station was built by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and opened in 1865

It was a four way junction and its trains, terminating at both London Bridge and Victoria, were consequently very heavily used.

It provided a major stimulus for the development of the area, especially after the introduction of cheaper workmen's fares in the 1880s.
The building is a fine example of the Victorian Romanesque style.
