A naked man was shot dead by police as he apparently ate the face of another man on the slipway of a six-lane road.

The victim, who was also naked, is in intensive care fighting for his life after the attack in Miami.

The man suffered severe facial injuries as the attacker bit his eyes and chewed off his nose, with up to 80% of his face affected.

Armando Aguilar of the Fraternal Order of Police said: "Seventy-five to 80 percent of his face was missing, and he was actually swallowing pieces of the man's face."

Police had initially responded to reports of two naked men fighting on the city's MacArthur Causeway bikepath.
