MIDDLESEX.[London : 1860]. A small antique print of Highbury College - designed by John Davies, opened in 1826 and destroyed by fire in 1946. Part of the grounds were sold to Arsenal Football Club in 1913, and the site of the college itself is marked by a garden in Aubert Park. Originally produced for Thomas Dugdale's part-work survey published as "The Curiosities of Great Britain" or "England Delineated" in various formats between 1838 and 1860

Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 76 x 112mm (approx. 3" x 4-3/8"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 186/043. £20 what all tour and walk leaders and guidebook writers love saying about the New River -- that's it's neither new nor a river, but an artificial watercourse opened in 1613 to bring drinking water from springs near Hertford to London. Between Hertford and Stoke Newington the watercourse remains in use as part of London's water supply system. Beyond this it's been abandoned, though most of the its course survives as a green strip and the occasional water feature. The 45km New River Path, developed in stages from the 1990snewriverducks, follows the full original length, often using waterside maintenance paths and a southern "heritage section" on streets and park paths, to the original New River Head at Thames Water's headquarters at Sadlers Wells near Islington. Here it gives another link to the London Loop at Hilly Fields Park, Enfield.Highbury and Islington Tube station is not a distinguished building, but it does have some interesting tiles depicting the old Highbury House, which was the original Jack Straw's castle.  For the remains of the 1904 station, look across the main road. Cross over at the lights to Highbury Place to get to Highbury Fields. Plenty to do here – a fitness centre with swimming pool, an adventure playground with scary tall slide, park land and tennis courts, all surrounded by superb Georgian and Victorian terraces.
