COOKING AS A RESTUARANT IN PEOPLES HOMES AS A BUSINESS. HOW TO DO IT

If you love to cook and friends, and family can't wait to be invited over for a meal then starting a home cooking business might be the way to turn your talents into a business. You will need  storage for cooking supplies, packaging materials, a way to deliver your home cooked goods and the proper licensing. The most important  is to obtain proper licensing.Your kitchen will have to have a healthy and safe enviroment . You can also lease a space . For example: a restaurant that only serves breakfast and lunch may be happy to lease you its kitchen for the late afternoon and evening hours.  A few weeks ago in Islington , I watched six slices of vegetable quiche change hands between two women who never even laid eyes on each other.
Maria  had cooked the quiche – peppers, mushrooms, asparagus heads, Gruyère – in her kitchen in Highbury Fields , inside a modest red brick house  She’d packed up the dinner with an  salad on the side, the dressing in its own little container.
Then on cue, at 4:28 in the afternoon, a bike messenger named Gaetano sporting an Spurs  T-shirt turned up to pedal the meal to Calabria Road . She was sending the food to a client who every week orders it . She has fifty clients who pay 5 pound per meal.
If there's one thing that will always be in demand, it's food. Everyone needs to eat, so there will always be a market for food-based businesses. With the overwhelming amount of restaurants and artisanal food purveyors out there, it can be tough to stand out, but with the right angle and marketing techniques, you can turn your culinary passion into a successful startup. If you love food or cooking, consider one of these .

Jams & preserves maker

There are few foods that are easier to hand-make and package in large quantities than jam. With access to a steady supply of high-quality fruits and mason jars, you can go into the jam-making business in no time. First, build a repertoire of tried-and-true jam recipes. Then create branded labels and sell your goods at local fairs, farmers markets and events. You can even start anonline business and ship directly to customers. Almanac.com has some tips for making the perfect preserves. Do jams which are hard to get , this is a good business and one that can be a steady revenue, if you have some land you can even grow your own fruit

Bakery

Start doing special bread or even the bread that existed once upon a time but now is impossible to find.Start with prices that are more or less what you would pay at a good supermarket like waitrose but make sure your bread is better.Have a list of about ten different bread products or breads
If you frequently find yourself whipping up a batch of cookies to stave off boredom, why not get paid for it by opening a bakery? Pull out grandma's old recipes (or create your own) and find desserts that you can replicate perfectly every time. Of course, retail space and equipment can cost a small fortune, so if you want to launch your bakery sooner rather than later, accept orders online and deliver or ship to local areas. This is a great business to run in your spare time, as you can fill orders during evenings and weekends. The best part about being in the baked goods business? You'll never find any shortage of volunteers to help you eat your mistakes.

Catering

Have you ever hosted a dinner party or holiday meal and found yourself barely able to enjoy it because of all the preparation? If you're a skilled home cook that can create delicious meals for a large group of people, you can help alleviate the stress of planning and preparing food for parties as a caterer. While bigger events like weddings and Sweet 16s might be hard to handle without a team, you could likely handle smaller home gatherings by yourself or with a business partner. Make sure you have enough kitchen space to prepare the meals and the means to transport the food to your clients. Go the extra mile and offer to help clean up after the party for great customer service (not to mention the fact that you'll probably earn a nice tip).

Grocery delivery

On-the-go working parents barely have time to cook dinner, let alone shop for groceries. If you have a spacious vehicle and some spare time during evenings and weekends, you can help these busy families by making supermarket runs for them. Clients can send you their grocery lists and pay for the items you pick up. Then you can make a profit by charging for time and delivery. Make an effort to compare prices for the best deals, and shop wholesale for common items to save them money. A unique spin on this concept is ingredient delivery, where you deliver the products and recipes needed to prepare specific meals.

Specialty food maker

With an increasing number of  people  living with food allergies and dietary restrictions, the market for vegan and gluten-free specialty items has grown exponentially. In fact, a May 2013 report byMarkets and Markets predicts a compound annual growth rate of 10.2 percent for gluten-free products alone. With a little research, you could learn to make these specialty snacks and baked goods to package and sell. Create an online storefront and ship out your goods or sell at local markets. Cook food for the obese that is tasty but low calories .

Food truck

Want to open a restaurant without paying for retail space and tons of kitchen equipment? With a decent set of wheels and a small-scale food prep station, you can. Decreased startup costs, competitive pricing and lower risk of failure are just a few of the reasons why food trucks are a great alternative to brick-and-mortar restaurants. Pick a specific type of food or cuisine you're familiar with and work on perfecting recipes in that category to sell at your mobile eatery. Focusing on a particular specialty can help you stand out from the competition and aid in your branding efforts. You could even do cheap sandwiches at a much lower price than other outlets. Lets face it a Cheese sandwich could cost no more than a pound or even less ,a cup of tea 50 p , thats the point of a food truck, you go below anything thats a fixed point or construction.
On the other hand you can do stuff that is not available . Like these rustici Leccese .

Farmers market vendor

If you're an avid home gardener and want to make a profit from your produce, sign up to be a vendor at a farmers market. Theorganic movement is still going strong, so having naturally grown fruits and vegetables will give you an advantage over competing growers that use conventional methods. You may have to go through an application process and/or get certified by your local board of health to begin selling. Visit Wikihow.com for more information.

Restaurant franchise owner

Investing in a franchise is a great way to become a business owner without having to come up with a concept or marketing strategy. With restaurant franchises, the product, brand and audience are already in place. All you need is a good location and some startup money, which is relatively easy to come by: Because a franchise has a proven business model, you're more likely to get a loan for this low-risk investment.

Personal chef

Another way to tap into the "busy family" market is by offering personal chef services. This business requires you to plan and prepare weekly or daily meals for your clients, so strong cooking skills and a working knowledge of nutrition and special diets (if applicable) are a must. While you don't necessarily need to have graduated from culinary school, taking a few cooking classes will boost your credibility. If you've ever fantasized about working for a celebrity, this might be your ticket in: A lot of high-profile individuals employ personal chefs to maintain a healthy diet with their round-the-clock work schedule.

supplements to make you look better

For healthier skin, hair & nails

Try: Primrose & Black Currant Oil
"Consider supplementing with gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a fat that helps promote healthy skin, hair, and nails and is very hard to come by in the diet," says Prevention advisor Andrew Weil, MD, clinical professor of medicine at the University of Arizona. "The best sources of GLA are evening primrose oil and black currant oil; take 500 mg of either twice a day and expect to use them for 6 to 8 weeks before you see results."

For firm, smooth skin

Try: Imedeen Prime Renewal
The idea that a biomarine-based complex can shore up aging skin may sound a little fishy, but the evidence is impressive, says Baumann. Postmenopausal women taking the supplement (which is recommended for those age 50 and up) saw significant improvement in skin firmness and smoothness in a 6-month study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition—and the results were seen on the face, d'colletage, and hands. Likewise, in a similar 12-week study on women taking a sister supplement (Imedeen Time Perfection, suggested for women 35 to 50), skin's moisture content increased by 30%. Other changes include a visible reduction in fine lines, a fading of sunspots, and an overall brighter complexion.
The contents of the Imedeen capsules—which contain a proprietary protein derived from a deep-sea fish and high concentrations of antioxidants such as vitamin C and lycopene—work in part by increasing production of collagen and elastin, as well as hyaluronic acid, the body's natural moisturizer, says Imedeen's Lars Lindmark, PhD. Take the Imedeen supplement suggested for your age, advises Baumann, who uses Time Perfection herself and recommends it to patients. Although a 90-day supply of Prime Renewal ($265) is significantly more expensive than Time Perfection ($195; both at imedeen.us), the dosage supplies twice the amount of the biomarine complex.

To halt hair loss

Try: Iron & Vitamin C
One cause of thinning hair is anemia. Hair loss occurs because iron deficiency lowers levels of red blood cells, which are crucial to the health of hair follicles. Save hair with iron supplements paired with vitamin C (which aids iron absorption), a cheap and effective method.

Beta Carotene

120 tablets

Beta carotene is found in dark green and yellow-orange vegetables such as carrots and cantaloupe melon. It is one of a family of naturally occurring nutrients called carotenoids, 60 of which occur in food. Beta carotene is considered to be one of the most important carotenoids because it can be converted by the body into vitamin A as and when required.

Each Healthspan tablet contains 7mg of natural beta carotene, which is in line with the Department of Health’s maximum recommended intake for safe consumption.
Carotene originates from the Latin word for carrot and refers to organic compounds which give plants and vegetables their yellow/orange pigment. There are around 60 carotenes found in food.Beta carotene is considered most vital for health as it is a provitamin. This means the body can convert it into vitamin A, which is essential for many biological processes and could help strengthen the immune system. Sweet potatoes, carrots and spinach are rich sources of beta carotene.
  • What does it do?

Beta carotene produces the highest levels of vitamin A compared to all other forms of carotenes. The antioxidant properties of this vitamin help protect the body from damage caused by free radical molecules. A study on elderly patients published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition(i) revealed a regular intake of beta carotene supplements could stimulate immune response and help fight off infections.
According to the University of Maryland Medical Centre,(ii) an intake of 15mg of beta carotene could also support nerve cells in eyes and combat conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataract. A study involving 976 participants(iii) revealed the antioxidant properties of beta carotene helped protect eye cells and could slow the progression of AMD.
Symptoms of cognitive decline, such as memory loss, mood swings and depression, could also be prevented by a regular dose of beta carotene. A study on 5,956 men over the age of 65 showed long-term beta carotene supplementation could reduce levels of oxidative stress associated with cognitive decline.
Like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mustard cress and many other ‘greens’, watercress belongs to the brassica family which provides a rich source of protective phytonutrients (plant chemical compounds) that scientists believe may help prevent and fight a wide range of cancers (i).
During both World Wars when we were reliant on local produce, watercress sandwiches were a national institution but sadly, as our diets became more varied and increased competition from more ‘exotic’ and sweeter leaves took centre stage, watercress gradually became relegated to a mere garnish left on the side of the plate.
However, watercress growers refused to be side-lined and slowly but surely research into this leafy wonder’s nutritional greatness has earned it an impressive array of ‘super’ stripes, making it a worthy player in the health defence game.

This vitamin and antioxidant-rich fruit can support the immune system and help with detoxification,” says Louisa. It can also provide the following health benefits:
Aids weight loss
Grapefruit is very low in calories, consisting of around 42kcal per 100g. Enjoying it as part of a balanced diet can be beneficial to weight loss.
In a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food, 91 obese patients were given fresh, juiced or capsule forms of grapefruit alongside a placebo to discover the benefits on weight loss and insulin regulation. After 12 weeks, the fresh grapefruit group had lost 1.6 kg, the grapefruit juice group had lost 1.5 kg, the grapefruit capsule group had lost 1.1 kg, and the placebo group had lost 0.3 kg. Results also found that eating half a grapefruit before a meal significantly reduced weight gain. Insulin reduction was also improved (i).
Lowers cholesterol
“Grapefruit contains the soluble fibre pectin which can support healthy cholesterol levels,” says Louisa. Pectin could help lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, a form of fat linked to heart disease. A 2006 study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found both white and red grapefruit decreased serum lipid levels in coronary atherosclerosis patients (ii).
Strengthens cells
“Grapefruit is an excellent source of vitamin C, with half a grapefruit giving you your daily requirement of 40mg,” explains Louisa. “It is also a good source of beta-carotene, which can be converted to vitamin A in the body, vitamin B5, and antioxidants. The pink and red varieties also contain lycopene.”
Lycopene is the substance which gives certain fruits and vegetables their red colour. It is packed with antioxidants that could help strengthen the thickness and fluidity of cell membranes, vital to protect the body from diseases such as macular degenerationcataractsand heart disease.

ACAI

What Is Acai Berry Good For?

Acai Nutrition Facts

Acai Berry Attributes

Botanical name: Euterpe oleracea
Similar to a cross between a grape and a blueberry, the acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) berry is a small, reddish-purple drupe consisting of a cluster of seeds, with only around 15 percent or so being edible, harvested from tall, slender palm trees found around the Amazon River basin of South America. These berries are also quite perishable, but have significant nutritional attributes when eaten fresh.
Traditional uses for acai fruit has included treatment for diarrhea, parasitic infections, hemorrhages and ulcers. As a food, acai pulp in the tribal Amazon belt is often blended with the starchy root vegetable manioc and eaten as porridge.
The taste is often described as reminiscent of wild berries and chocolate. It's found in large supermarkets and health food stores throughout the world, usually as a juice or tea rather than fresh, simply because getting them out of the Amazon with the nutrients still intact is a complicated process.
Other uses for the acai berry include natural food coloring, cosmetics, anti-aging skin creams, shampoos and conditioners, and also in food supplements. Expensive acai-based products have been widely hyped as having significant weight loss potential, but on that score, scientifically speaking, the jury's still out. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission announced in early 2012 that it had asked federal courts to temporarily suspend the activity of websites marketing acai berry weight loss products.

Health Benefits of Acai Berry

This little berry's list of attributes includes a high level of antioxidant activity similar to cranberries, but more than what's been found in blueberries and strawberries. Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) values measuring the antioxidant power of acai fruit pulp/skin powder reportedly have the highest ORAC value among fruits and vegetables, or 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes.
Acai berries are low in sugar, but contain excellent amounts of iron, calcium, fiber, and vitamin A. They also contain anthocyanin compounds such as resveratrol and cyaniding and ferulic acid, which not only give fruits and vegetables their distinct color, but also team up with flavonoids to defend the body against harmful free radicals. In fact, acai berries contain 10 to 30 times more anthocyanin power than red wine. Beneficial fatty acids such as oleic acid, one of the same oils found in olive oil, is another strong point, and healthy levels of dietary fiber keep the system functioning smoothly.
The properties contained in acai berries may help prevent health problems such as arthritis, inflammation, obesity, erectile dysfunction, neurological diseases, and allergies. Lab studies have shown them to have positive effects on ailments associated with oxidative stress, heart disease, and cancer.
Acai berries should be consumed in moderation, because they still contain sugar, even if in lower levels than other fruits. Remember, fructose may be harmful to your health in excessive amounts.

Studies on Acai Berries

A study published in mid-2011 reported that the acaí berry not only offers potential health benefits due to its antioxidant scavenging capacities, but also suppresses biological activity that would degrade cellular integrity.1
Research published in September 2012 reported the effects of acai berry pulp on chemically-induced urothelial bladder cancer in mice, and the incidence and multiplicity of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). After 10 weeks of treatment, the acai berry pulp treatment was found to reduce the TCC incidence, multiplicity, and tumor cell proliferation, as well as significantly reduce DNA damage. The study authors reported that the positive acai berry pulp treatment was probably due to the fruit's antioxidant abilities.2
The purpose of another study was to evaluate how acai fruit pulp affected metabolic disorder risks. It involved 10 overweight adults taking 100 grams of acai pulp twice daily for a month. Prior to the study, each subject's blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and other biomarkers were measured.
At the end of the 30-day trial, researchers found reductions in fasting glucose, insulin levels, and total cholesterol; however, there was no effect on blood pressure. Scientists concluded that the acai fruit pulp reduced the levels of selected metabolic disease markers in the overweight subjects, indicating that further studies, including those on heart disease and/or type 2 diabetes, are warranted.3

Acai Berry Fun Facts

Acai, a dietary staple for people in the Amazonian rainforest regions, has been harvested the same way for centuries. The 60- to 80-foot palm trees are scaled by workers who cut the branches, then slide back down the smooth, slender trunks to the ground.
Because acai berries are so low in sugar and acid, which protects most fruits, they must be picked, processed, flash-pasteurized, and frozen quickly before being transported out of the Amazon. If left unprocessed, the fruit will oxidize, turn brown, and lose its beneficial nutrients.

Summary

Up until a decade ago or so, acai berries were unheard of by anyone outside Amazonian regions. Seemingly overnight (thanks to the Internet), they became the new superfood promising amazing weight loss capabilities. But then, reports began casting grave doubts on those claims, especially due to the emergence of numerous (and expensive) acai berry-based diet supplements flooding the internet.
Because of so many conflicting reports, university and clinical studies have been instigated to get to the bottom of the controversy regarding what this little South American berry actually offers nutritionally. The upshot is that, just like nearly every other plant-based food, acai berries, too, contain many beneficial compounds, such as powerful antioxidants, fiber, monounsaturated fats, iron, calcium, fiber, vitamin A, and anthocyanins, clinically proven to be beneficial for health.
