Ingredients:
- 500g minced beef
- 1 red onion, coarsely grated
- 1 large garlic clove, crushed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method:
1. Tip the mince, grated onion and garlic into a bowl. Season well then combine well with your hands until evenly mixed.
2. Form the meat mixture into four evenly sized burgers, then rub them all over with olive oil.
3. Heat a frying or griddle pan and fry the burgers for 3-4 minutes each side or until tender (alternatively cook on a BBQ grill).
4. Serve on the toasted buns, with red onion rings, sliced tomatoes, little gem lettuce and some ketchup and mayonnaise on the side.
To serve with the burgers:
4 seeded baps, lightly toasted
1 red onion, sliced into rings
3 round tomatoes, sliced
1 little gem lettuce, leaves separated

Extra recipe suggestions:
Add some fresh herbs (rosemary or thyme would work well), or a little Dijon or grainy mustard to the meat mix.
