At last, there's a new iPhone in town. The iPhone 4S is the latest iteration of Apple's insanely popular smart phone, and, while it looks just like an iPhone 4 on the outside, it packs some surprises on the inside.
The iPhone 4S will be out on 14 October in black and white versions. It will also be available in 16, 32 and 64GB flavours, starting at £499. Let's take a look at what's new.

8-megapixel camera

There's a new camera in tow, too. The 4S has an 8-megapixel snapper that will capture snaps at a 3,264x2,448-pixel resolution. That's a step-up from the iPhone 4's 5-megapixel affair. Face detection, a CMOS sensor and backside illumination (snigger) are also in play, while a new sensor will apparently let in 73 per cent more light than the iPhone 4's camera.

A5 chip

The biggest change is the new processor. It's Apple's own A5 chip, a dual-core affair that the company reckons will make the iPhone 4S seven times faster than the iPhone 4.
Apple showed off the 4S' computing prowess by running the cutting-edge Infinity Blade 2, and the phone certainly seemed potent. We would never have called the iPhone 4 underpowered, but a new processor should kit its successor out well for a fresh generation of intensive apps.
